From what I saw at the Learn conference earlier this year, those that want more customization on the calendar just create a static calendar with HTML and ignore the built in calendar. I guess this will work depending on the number of events you have going on.
Wow! You didn’t even mention Adobe Flash – the standard in web animation and interactivity for the last few years. Using Flash with Rapid Intake’s Flash Form software allows you to create SCORM compliant courses quickly and easily.
Anyone can use Flash Form. If you are a computer newbie, you can enter text into forms to create your courses – or import your PPT presentations. Graphics artists can use Flash’s timeline to create slideshows or import video. Rapid Intake also includes the source files in their pro version – if you are a programmer you can customize the software however you like. Flash IS the standard for animation and interactivity. If you are looking for a tool to create elearning you can stop looking.
5 December 2006 at 5:57 am in reply to: Learn.com – LearnCenter LMS – Training Module Creation #1097I did finally get a training module completed in Flash Form by Rapid Intake. We assigned the course to 1,000 employees and so far almost 800 have completed the course.
The problems/issues we experienced during the rollout have so far all been either no flash player installed or an older flash player installed. So far it is easy to determine who is having the problem – if the Learn.com reports show completed with no score we know they didn’t have Flash player installed.
I really like the flexibility of the FlashForm software. I customized the template (their templates are a little weak). To create each course, I just create a flash file of the appropriate size and edit my animations to a voice narration track. It is really easy. Flash Form Version 2 even builds the manifest file and everything.

Andrea,
Rapid Intake also has a free trial version of their software. I tested their sample course in the LMS and everything worked correctly. I am building my first course with their Flash Companion software right now. (Rapid Intake just released a new version of the software – it is now called Flash Form)So far I really love their software. It really can be used with very basic Flash skills. I just customized all of the interface graphics and am now creating the course content. Each “page” of content is a slide-show that I build in Flash. I just import a voice-narration track and edit my slide show in the layers above. I am even using Flash video files to present content.
I believe Flash is the way to go. Flash is an industry standard web development tool with a huge support base and an existing base of users. Just about everyone already has the plug-in installed! And improving your knowledge of the Flash software can only help you in the future when you develop a website or banner ads and such.
Granted, I have not yet successfully completed my course and used it in the LMS yet, but I have complete confidence that it will work properly. These guys really know what they are doing. So far my calls and email to Rapid Intake are answered promptly and inteligently. RapidIntake is a small company that seems to be off to a very good start. Don’t be surprised when Garin Hess, the developer of the software, actually takes your calls and fields your tech support questions!

How to stop the Pop-Up window appearing when you use the “LOG-OUT” function in the LearnCenter LMS:
You actually have to edit the “Logout.asp” file to do this. This pop up window occurs because of a Windows security update and originally didn’t happen. The window is just supposed to close.
WARNING – BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL “Logout.asp” FILE BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES!
This is a part of the LMS and you should not touch it if you don’t know what you are doing.simply add the window.opener = this; line to your Logout.asp file in
declaration as shown below—
Did I mention it was SCORM 1.2 compliant? And it is AICC compliant. I have tested it with the LearnCenter LMS and had good results. I will know more after I actually get my first full course completed and into the LMS.
I recently received “Flash Companion eLearning Studio 2005” from wwwRapidIntake.com. This software was created entirely in Macromedia (now Adobe) Flash MX 2004!
RapidIntake includes all of the Flash source files so I can completely customize the courses! I am also using Flash to create the content and quiz’s. This (Flash) is an industry standard software with 98% of web users already having the plug-in. I already know how to use Flash – I’ve used it since 1997!
Needless to say, I am jazzed. I don’t have to spend hours learning Lectora or Toolbook – software that has no other application outside of e-learning. I can continue to use a software I already know that can also be used for other things like websites, CD-Roms, etc.
LOG – OUT vs. LOG-IN
I finally found the “Log-in” function in the Learn.com LMS. This is different from the “Log-out” function in some advantageous ways!
Log-out: does log out user, but then closes the window.
Log-in: does log out user, but then navigates to a new log-in window for the next user to log in.LOG OUT CODE—
LogoutLOG IN CODE—
Log Out
(Change the 6 digit learncenter ID code to your actual code – replace the “999999”)There is a way to stop the warning window that pops-up when you use the Log-Out function. I will go find it and post it soon.
I had my Learn tech guy add a registry key for us to access the ldcDefaultLC.css file. The only issue I have had is that this file is overwritten during upgrades and I have to go paste my added css styles in again. You may want to watch out – if you start editing .js files your additions may get overwritten during upgrades.
Does the “Logout” function work in your LMS? In mine, it tries to close the window, which Windows security doesn’t allow. When I hit “allow”, the window just closes.
If this is all that it does, we won’t be using it, since it is just the same as closing the browser. We really wanted a logout that sent you back to the sign in page.
Let me know if you are getting it to work!
