It is becoming apparent that Learn.com forum moderators are very liberal with editing our messages, including removing any code included. This combined with a very poor software documentation system is a hinderance to those of us working with the system. In order to speak freely, I am going to try to build a LearnCenter community on a 3rd party site (This one!).
This topic is focused on Graphic Design, but feel free to start other topics you need discussed.
The tip I have to offer is access to the default CSS style sheet used by the Learn Center. I have the installed version of the Learncenter, so I can access these files on our server. You may want to check that your version allows you to access the appropriate files.
Editing the default CSS style sheet can be done by adding a Registry Key. (Be advised, editing these registry keys can have a dramatic impact on your LearnCenter and you might want to contact your support staff before modifying them.) Under the “Appearance” section of the registry add they Key “LC_Default_CSS_URL” of Type “Value” with the value of “css/ldcDefaultLC.css”. Now you can open your ldcDefaultLC.css file and append your custom CSS styles to it. (Be sure to back up your original file before making any edits.)
Please post replies with your questions or tips to editing the graphic look of the LearnCenter LMS.
Thanks,

I am using Trivantis, Lectora with the Learn.com LMS SBS (Small Business Solution). I am also a graphic artist. I will be posting a few things here and there and checking this forum to see what else is posted. We are not hosting our own LMS, Learn.com is.
We have run into a number of issues along the way. I just think it would be very helpful to post code/ideas/solutions freely.
Thanks for setting this up Zack – was a great idea. Everything I have posted so far on the Learn.com forum has been edited or deleted!
31 May 2006 at 1:27 am #1035Lectora Course, set course pop up size, no scroll, on every page:
My lectora course opens at a fixed size not embedded in a page, as a pop up window (set these properties when you import the course). At the moment, Learn.com does not allow you to set the size of the course so that scrollbars appear.
Use this sample code at the top level (AU or course title level) so that it appears on every page. If the user changes the window size or postion, it will snap back when they click next and a new page appears:
add as HTML and just resize the box to be very small, put it in the upper right hand corner of your course so it is out of the way while you are developing. Nothing will appear on the page when you publish. The code will just be present and do it’s “job” behind the scenes.

Object Name: Dimension
Object Type: Other
uncheck Use External Text…
check Initially Visible
check Size Postion Locked (after you position the HTML box out of the way)Note: You may need to edit dimensions… my course size is W 785 and H 700.

I can not get SCORM 2004 to publish and load reliably in the LC (LearnCenter)
I am publishing by Lectora courses to SCORM 1.2.
31 May 2006 at 1:37 am #1037Lectora and Test Scores
Test scores are averaged together in Lectora. We did not want our Pretest to be averaged with the final score. We have set our Pre-test to be graded (checked), but not to “include test score in overall score” (unchecked).
In order for a score to be registered in the Learn.com LMS, you must add an action. This action sends the score and marks the course as complete.
Action Name: Submit Score to LC
On: Show
Action: Modify Variable
Target: Aicc_Lesson_Status
Value: completed
Modifcation Type: Set Variable ContentsNOTE: AICC actions also work for SCORM courses/classes. We are publishing as SCORM 1.2, but this action works for us!
31 May 2006 at 1:52 am #1038Lectora and Detailed Test Interactions
Our tests are created IN Lectora, not in the LearnCenter. If you create them in the LearnCenter, this info is automatically collected. For ease of use and asthetics, we chose to create our Tests In our authoring tool, Lectora…
We were having a lot of trouble with our reporting. While we are still working on this, I wanted to share with you what we have learned so far as this is probably the most important part of having an LMS. We did have to have the advanced reporting feature activated so that we can use Crystal Reports with the Learn.com LMS (this is the part we are still working on).
However, we were able to get a report from support telling us what was being captured (all info) in our LMS. We found that ALL of our test interactions are being submitted into the LearnCenter regardless if the question is IN a test or OUTSIDE of a test (as an exercise). It also does not matter if the test is being graded or counted.
IMPORTANT: You must NAME your test questions correctly, or in a manner where they can be easily identifiable. SCORM requires that test interactions be recorded, but it does not require the actual question be displayed. You will see the answers but not know which test question it belongs to unless you name the “Question Name” in the “Question Propoerties” box appropriatly.
NOTE: The “Associated variable name:” does not determine what gets reported into the LC. You must give the “Question Name” the correct nomenclature.
For example, I am using:
Post_S6_CBD_Q32
as the “Question Name” and the “Associated variable name:”.
I know that this means:
Post Test
Section 6
Critical Business Drivers
Question No. 32With this information we SHOULD be able to build a crystal report that will tell us the question name and match it with the question answer. If anyone has any insite on Crystal they would like to share, please do so as we are in the process of trying to figure this out!
Thanks!

We created a few simulations in Captivate and exported them as .swf (flash) files. I wanted these to open in a new window with no scroll bars from the home page of my learn center.
Create a page with no header and no left navigation, do not show in the directory and do not show user controls, and add your .swf file.
You will need to copy and paste the web address of the page it is coming from (I will call it the parent page) and the page it is going to (child) in the code below. Make sure you are not in edit mode. You should be in preview mode. Use note pad to hold your links until you are ready.
My links are from an image stored in my resource manager named “05_USA_102_Arrow_Cir_Rt(5).gif”
adjust the Height and Width to the size of your .swf file.
to create the link on each image use this code in your table in the TD section:
31 May 2006 at 5:45 am #1040LearnCenter Freeform Area Editor – BG Table Image
To add a background image in a table or table cell. Right click on the table –> Table Properties –> under Background Image type the path files/images/ImageName.jpg –> OK
ImageName.jpg represents an image that has already been loaded into the resource manager. change this to the name of your .jpg or .gif image.
NOTE: sometimes you need to define the height of a cell to make the BG display properly. I usually use an image called blank.gif. This is a 1 x 1 blank pixel (no color) saved out as a .gif and loaded into my resources center. I keep it in a common folder and use it at all LearnCenters. I will insert this image into the cell and then define the height as say 30 pixels. This will force the cell to be at least 30 pixel high. The “image” blank.gif or spacer.gif – what ever you decide to call it – will be invisible, but will hold the height of that cell so your BG (background) image does not get cut off.
Note: pay attention to the cell padding and spacing. Set both to “0” if they seem to not be behaving or if your table is not showing the correct height.

Link to a pop up page from a link of text at a fixed width and height with scroll bars.
Parent Page Link – Address in Preview mode of page the link is on
Child Page Link – Address in Preview mode of page that is popping up.
Sales – Name of Link
define your own height and widthSales 31 May 2006 at 5:53 am #104231 May 2006 at 5:56 am #1043Print a Page Button…
NOTE: on the Print Page – the LMS header does not always print. I had to copy and paste the header HTML into a new “Insert New Area Here” section. Then it would print.
31 May 2006 at 6:02 am #1044LearnCenter Logo
I was told I can not remove the LearnCenter Logo. What I have been doing in the mean time is to just add a section of returns or
s to a new “Insert New Area Here” section below all my other Areas. On pages with a print button though, keep it minimal or a person will wind up printing 3 or more pages of nothing.

I don’t think there is a Dynamic Content tag for Logout. I wanted my Logout text to appear in the header in Red:
2 June 2006 at 7:19 am #1046Does the “Logout” function work in your LMS? In mine, it tries to close the window, which Windows security doesn’t allow. When I hit “allow”, the window just closes.
If this is all that it does, we won’t be using it, since it is just the same as closing the browser. We really wanted a logout that sent you back to the sign in page.
Let me know if you are getting it to work!
3 June 2006 at 12:33 am #1047Mine does the same thing but it does log you off and shut the window. if I allow it logs you out and shuts the window. If I deny, then it leaves the window open, but if you try to do anything, you have to log back in again.
