We just invested in Crystal Reports by Business Objects and found out that there are some issues with using it in the Learn.com LMS. Before you go spending any money on it check with Learn.com to be sure the issue was resolved FIRST!
(We are being hosted by Learn.com – you may not have the issue if you are hosting it yourself?? I don’t know enough about the issue to give any specifics, I’m not a Techi – but if you have any insight to offer, please do so!)
I have been assured that they are working on it with Business Objects but it’s been an open issue for a couple of months now.
Anyone using Crystal with Learn.com?? Give me some info on how it’s working for you!!

16 June 2006 at 2:48 am #1054We just put in our P.O. to purchase the latest Crystal Reports version so now I’m concerned. We have an older version of Crystal we use with our HR system but it wasn’t compatible with Learn’s requirements.
We plan to heavily use the custom reports we’ll build in Crystal. What issues are you having? What are the things you can/can’t do?

23 June 2006 at 1:24 am #1055We are not able to run a Crystal Report in the LMS. We never did get that far. First there was an issue getting it to save into the LMS but that seems to be ok now. I was able to check with Business Objects and they are working with Learn.com to resolve some issue. I was not given any details though as I am not a Learn.com employee. It does have something to do with the Windows Server 2003 machine where our LMS is being hosted. I am sorry I can not provide more detail. Both Learn.com and Business Objects were very vauge about the issue. All I can tell you is that it has been “broken” since Feb of this year. I will let you know however, if it does start working again.
Can you please tell me where you are hosted and which version of Crystal you are using? Thanks!
23 June 2006 at 1:28 am #1056also, did that version of Crystal ever work with the Learn.com LMS? I was told that they do not have many clients using Crystal, which I was surprised by, since so many people on their staff seem to advocate the use of Cyrstal. Crystal is also mentioned in the User Guide. Thanks!
15 July 2006 at 1:00 am #1063FYI – new development in our Crystal issues. We are still unable run Crystal Reports, but we have been told that the need to be in this format: OLEDB – you techies should know what that means, I do not!
However, we are now having some connectivity issues, according to my Crystal “guy”. I believe he is working with Learn.com to be able to upload the report again.
26 July 2006 at 1:17 am #1066update – we are now able to upload and run a crystal report – I am not sure what the issue was exactly but it seems to be “ok” now…
29 July 2006 at 3:33 am #1075It took us quite a while to get our copy of Crystal Reports but we now have it. We’re now working on getting a copy of our database so we can build reports. Thanks for the information about the OLEDB – I don’t know what it means either but I’ll pass it on to the person building our reports. I’m glad it’s now working for you.
