I am trying to understand the pricing criterions for Learning Management Systems. As of now, I understand that LMS can be deployed either as SaaS model or hosted at client’s end.
Here, I am not sure how does why does LMS cost vary as per user base in case the LMS is hosted at client’s end?9 February 2008 at 8:55 am #1102Anusha,
The differences in price between an ASP or SaaS model and an installed model LMS from my experience are generally that the SaaS model is usually much cheaper than an installed option. There are valid reasons for this difference though.
* SaaS LMS models are generally targeted at small-to-medium size businesses (SMBs) with relatively simple requirements
* SaaS LMS models cannot be customized to your own organizations business requirements – in other words, you get what they give you…
* SaaS models are often usage-based. This is because of the fact that the more you utilize the LMS and deliver courses, the more resources you are consuming (i.e. bandwidth, diskspace, back-up time, etc.). You are costing the vendor more to support you and therefore are charged more for greater usage.
* Installed models allow you to have the LMS customized for your specific business needs
* Implementation projects are generally much more expensive in the installed model due to these customimzations, data imports/exports, integration with existing business systems, single sign-on solutions, etc.
* Large up-front software license fees usually accompany an installed LMS as opposed to a usage-based model described above. This is because you are consuming your own resources when as your training volumes increase (your bandwidth, your server space, etc.)
* Due to the higher cost of installed LMS solutions, they are generally more common for large businesses.I know your original post is quite old, but hopefully this information is useful.

Creating platform in ASP or ASP.net and SaaS is different.
There are ready made software available in market,
You need to just check out the pricing and features which they are providing.
I think LMS with SCROM will be the best choice for you.
Still pricing also depends on your customization on ready made software.
