Leading Software-as-a-Service LMS platform provider to leverage industry’s most sophisticated content reusability model.
WEST DES MOINES, IOWA, May 23, 2006 — GeoLearning, Inc., the leading provider of Managed Learning Services and hosted learning platforms, announced today a partnership with Xyleme, Inc. to provide SCORM 2004 functionality support for its GeoMaestro and GeoExpress Learning Management Suites. The alliance between the leading Software-as-a-Service LMS platform provider and the industry’s most sophisticated content reusability model enables GeoLearning clients to develop and launch SCORM 2004-compliant content and take advantage of SCORM 2004 features, including content reusability, prescriptive testing and simple sequencing.
“The combination is a SCORM 2004 solution our competitors can’t match,†said Frank Russell, president and CEO of GeoLearning.
“It will provide our clients with access to the most sophisticated content reusability model available in the marketplace.â€
The combined GeoLearning-Xyleme solution will enable users to treat content homogeneously across a wide variety of delivery media. So whether content is an Adobe PDF, Web page or an actual SCORM 2004 course, it is all the same content that can be shared, changed and reused, independent of media and with very fine granularity. This extensive reusability supports wider distribution networks for content because it doesn’t matter if clients are working with e-learning courses, printed technical manuals or online support files because it is all the same native content.
“We are excited to work with GeoLearning to provide customers with a 100% XML-based single-source solution for managing and distributing learning content,†commented Mark Hellinger, CEO of Xyleme. “This joint solution not only ensures content integrity across learning products but enables easy distribution across all delivery platforms.â€
The Xyleme 100% XML-based solution was certified by the Advanced Distribution Learning Initiative (ADL) in January 2006 as meeting the requirements of the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) 2004 Conformance Test Suite. GeoLearning will package Xyleme’s Courseware Runtime Engine, a software program that delivers SCORM 2004 interactive courseware to GeoLearning’s LMS, and Xyleme’s learning content management system, a solution that provides SCORM 2004 content development capabilities, with its GeoMaestro and GeoExpress learning management platforms via Web services.
The SCORM certification process is determined by independent third-party testing and provides consumers of distributed learning content and systems with the assurance that certified products have successfully implemented ADL SCORM specifications.
The ADL initiative is a collaborative effort between government, industry and academia to establish a new distributed learning environment that permits the interoperability of learning tools and course content on a global scale. Launched in 1997 by the Department of Defense and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the ADL is chartered with developing an open architecture for standardizing the reusability and interoperability of online learning content.
