A screencast is a movie of what a user sees on his/her monitor.Like a movie of series of computer activities with audio narration. A screencast software is used to create a screencast. It records your computer activities and instantly create a screencast. The screencast can be in a variety of format like .exe, .swf, .avi, .wmv etc. A video camera can also be used to record screen contents of a desktop computer but it cant produce high quality and easily redeable screencast.
Screencast can be used to show to others like your friend (who is miles away from you) how a given task says software can be installed on a computer. It is of great use to software developers as they can describe there projects like features of there software, report bugs and show off their work through screencast. A screencast is different from a screenshot. A screenshot is simply a still picture of a computer screen. Screencast is also known as the ‘Video Screen Capture’.
Screencast is very good tool to teach computer or a particular software to students who lives miles away or may be in a different country or continent. It can impart high quality education at a releatively low cast as it involves both audio and video narration and can be made available on DVDs or CD-ROMs. Three steps are invloved in producing a screencast: Capture of audio and video, editing and production of a compressed file.’Windows media encoder’ can be used for capturing audio and video. ‘Windows Movie Maker’ can be used for editing purpose.
